Opened in Chivasso in 1999 as a laboratory for research on materials and microsystems, the Chilab laboratory has dealt, for over 20 years, with issues related to the study of materials and the design of manufacturing processes for MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems) devices.
Over the years, the laboratory has acquired a scientific level recognized internationally. The scientific and technological value was rewarded by the Piedmont Region, which financed the creation of a co-funded infrastructure (PIQUET) by the Polytechnic University of Turin, the National Institute of Metrological Research (INRiM), and the University of Turin.
The Chilab Laboratory in the historic headquarters of Chivasso, with its own clean room, has been able to extend its research activity in the field of materials and interconnection and packaging processes, acquiring the payoff of Interfacing Technology for Edge Microsystems (Chilab-ITEM).
Today the Chilab-ITEM laboratory stands out for the study and development of advanced skills in the field of Back-End Of Line (BEOL) in microelectronics. The activities concern technological processes from wafer cutting to the integration of System In Package (SiP) of complex devices both mixed signal and power modules. The Chilab-ITEM team, composed of Full Professors, Professors, Senior Researchers, Young Researchers and PhD students, is involved in both co-funded and commercial research projects. The combination of basic research with industrial needs creates a great added value that is highly appreciated by industrial partnerships that have been able to draw a significant scientific and technological contribution from it.
